Within the scope of the owner's liability, the UVV inspection (accident prevention regulations) in the vehicle fleet is also an unavoidable task that you as a fleet manager must master. We show you what you have to pay attention to.
What is the UVV inspection?
According to the legal UVV, the fleet manager and also fleet drivers are obliged to check company vehicles regularly. If this is not done, the vehicle owner can face fines and loss of insurance coverage. The goal of this requirement is to prevent unnecessary accidents and health hazards. Since these inspections are often time-consuming, fleet managers should consider how to integrate them into daily fleet management in a cost- and time-efficient manner.
The UVV inspection is mandatory by law and is published under the abbreviation DGUV Vorschrift 70 as well as DGUV 1. It states that daily vehicle inspections must be carried out by the drivers, regular vehicle inspections must be carried out by the owner (in this case the fleet manager) and annual vehicle inspections must be carried out by an expert.
What exactly is carried out during the UVV inspection?
During the UVV inspection, for example, all settings for the safety of the vehicles are checked as well as the condition of various vehicle components that could be affected by wear. This includes, for example, tires or brakes. Furthermore, the functions such as vehicle sensors or warning devices must also be checked here in order to avoid accidents and health risks.
What evidence must be provided during the inspection?
In order to have a better overview of what the individual tests have shown, you should also create test protocols for the UVV test. Here, various facts are prepared transparently, such as:
- The type of test
- Date of inspection
- Defects found in the vehicles
- Risk and safety analyses for the individual vehicles
- Potential retesting of the vehicles
- Information provided by the person in charge or the inspector
If during one of these UVV inspections defects or potential danger or safety risks are found on the vehicles, these defects must be corrected immediately. If the inspection is successful, an inspection sticker is then affixed with the respective date of the last inspection and also added to the vehicle once again as a printed version. Vehicles that do not receive these stickers are prohibited from further driving.
The intervals of the UVV inspection are based on the risk assessments of various vehicles, which must be prepared by the fleet manager, within the framework of the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health. Based on these risk analyses, it is then determined when the next inspections according to UVV must be carried out.
